Equilibrium of forces 1 - Principle of moment
Equilibrium of forces
- Principle of moment
- Conditions for equilibrium of rigid bodies under the action of parallel and non-parallel force
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- distinguish between resultant and equilibrant;
- explain the concept of equilibrium and distinguish between static and dynamic equilibrium;
- explain the conditions that must be satisfied if an object is to be kept in equilibrium by action of non-parallel forces;
- explain what is meant by the moment of a force about a point;
- take moments of a given force about any point and show their direction;
- explain the conditions that must be satisfied if a body is to be kept in equilibrium by the action of parallel forces.
